About the Boroughbridge Allotment Society

The Society was founded in December 2009 with the object of creating allotments for the people of Boroughbridge. Then the town only has a very small number of privately owned allotments.

At the initial Society meeting about 28 people expressed an interest in acquiring an allotment either of "full size" or "half size". Since this meeting things have moved on at a pace. After much hard work, by many people, land has been leased and infrastructure put in place so by early 2011 the Society was able to allow people onto the 75 plots created on the Aldborough Gate allotment site.

Much has moved on in the last year or so. We are still dreaming of relaxing in front of the allotment shed but much of the physical hard work has been completed on the original 75 plots. Not content with this the Society leased additional land which created another 35 plots. These plots have all been occupied and new allotment holders have completed their first, allbeit difficult season.

However the allotment site is not all that the Society is about. The Society aims to be active within the local community being  represented at local events and shows. If you come across us at one of these events please stop and have a chat. The Society will organise and host talks that will be free and open to all on gardening related subjects . These talks will be publicised locally as well as in the Calendar section of this website.

We will keep everyone up to date of our progress via this website. Any suggestions for suitable content for the website will be gratefully received.
